​Deacon Positions for 2027

BCC's Nominating Committee will soon be working to fill three deacon positions for the next term beginning in 2027. Here is a description of these ministries:​​

 

Moderator (currently led by Ivan Bastidas)

• Leads the Leadership Board and congregational meetings, helps ensure that everyone is heard, promotes unity, and helps the church follow its Constitution, Bylaws, and established processes. 

• Skills needed: A seasoned and respected church leader with strong character, wisdom, leadership ability, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This person should understand BCC well and be able to guide discussions fairly and constructively while maintaining unity.

 

Ministry Facilitator (currently led by Ginger Ogg)

• Helps church members discover meaningful places to serve according to their God-given gifts, abilities, and passions. The Facilitator gets to know people and their strengths, works with ministry leaders to identify needs, and helps match the right people with the right opportunities. 

• Skills needed: A wise and encouraging person with broad knowledge of BCC’s ministries and experience serving in the church. This person should be good at seeing potential in others, working with computer databases, connecting people and opportunities, communicating well, and helping people find their place. 

 

​Prayer Ministry Director (currently led by Carmen Recinos)

• Helps make prayer a vital part of the life and ministry of BCC. This person leads the Prayer Team, coordinates prayer gatherings and prayer requests, and equips and inspires the congregation to grow in prayer and faithfully pray for our church, community, leaders, and ministries. 

• Skills needed: A spiritually mature person with a strong personal commitment to prayer and gifts suited to both intercession and leadership. Helpful qualities include faith, wisdom, discernment, mercy, confidentiality, encouragement, and the ability to recruit and lead others.

Qualifications & Responsibilities of All Deacons

• All deacons serve as members of BCC’s Leadership Board and therefore should be spiritually mature, servant-hearted members who demonstrate Christlike character and support the church’s purposes, vision, values, and beliefs. They should exemplify the biblical qualities of church leadership described in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

• In addition to leading their particular ministry, deacons help make prayerful and wise decisions for the church, model faithful participation and service, promote unity, handle conflict biblically, communicate well with other leaders, and participate regularly in Leadership Board and congregational meetings.

• Candidates must also meet these basic eligibility requirements:

  • be a member of BCC in good standing

  • have been attending BCC regularly for at least one year

  • be 21 years of age or older
