The Love of God

You've probably heard the words before: “God loves you” or “Jesus loves you." It’s one of the most fundamental ideas in Christianity – that God is love. Some people aren't interested in that message because they don't feel a particular need for God's love. Others wish they could believe it, but deep down, they feel God could never truly love them.

Here is what it says in one of the most famous verses in the Bible:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever
believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" - John 3:16 (ESV)

Would you read that verse again and let it sink in?

Now, let's break it down piece by piece:

For God...

God is the all-powerful creator of everything.

So loved the world...

God loves everyone in the world. That includes you.

That he gave his only Son...

God is generous and self-sacrificing. His love has caused him to take action. God sent his Son, Jesus, to help us know Him and experience his love.

That whoever believes in him...

In the Bible, belief means trust. Believing in Jesus means trusting Him to save and guide you.

Should not perish...

The consequences of sin include death and separation from God. Jesus died in our place to pay the penalty for our sins. He loved us enough to provide a way for us to be forgiven.

But have eternal life...

Eternal life begins when you truly put your hope and trust in Jesus. In this life, you can experience his love every day. And you will continue to experience it forever in heaven.

Would you be willing to let God's love break through into your heart and life? If so, you can call out to him, thanking him for sending Jesus to die for you. Ask him to forgive you and give you a new start. And ask him to help you trust and follow him.
